Welcoming family diversity in Portugal between 15 and 18 October 2015
Rainbow families will meet as from today, 15 October 2015, in Oeiras, near Lisbon, Portugal, for their 4th European Annual Meeting of Rainbow Families. The event is sponsored by the Network of European LGBT Families Associations (NELFA) and hosted by ILGA Portugal, a fouding member of NELFA and the oldest and biggest LGBT association in Portugal.
Maria von Känel, NELFA’s President, who is coming to the event with her wife and their two children, said: “NELFA is very excited about this event taking place in Portugal this year. We are very grateful for all the hard work that ILGA Portugal volunteers and staff put into making this come through. Hundreds of families from Portugal and from all over Europe, will come together for a long weekend of workshops, fun activities, and more importantly, socialising”.
Luis Amorim, NELFA Board Member, who will also be present at the event with his husband and their child, added: “There is a lot to be said about having the chance to interact with other families that look just like ours, and to share our common joys and challenges together. It is a wonderful opportunity for our daughter to make new friends and to learn from peers whose families are very similar to ours. This is a meeting where families like mine feel totally embraced and validated and that is priceless”.
