4th Annual Meeting in Portugal: a few follow-up news

Following our successful 4th European Annual Meeting for Rainbow Families in Oeiras, Portugal this past weekend (15*18 October 2015), we like to bring a few things to your attention.

ILGA Portugal made a fantastic job and the Board of NELFA is extremely grateful for their commitment, particularly the difficult circumstances under which they had to operate, following the cancellation early this year of the meeting planned for Rimini, Italy. ILGA Portugal: Muito Obrigad@!

One of the highlights of our meeting were the Rainbow Talks. If you follow our Facebook page regularly you will have seen them, but just in case here are the respective links on Youtube (the talks were streamlined live):

Rainbow Talks – Part 1

Daniela Freitas and Jorge Gato share the latest research on LGBT parents and our families;

Julia Ehrt talks about being a mother and transgender;

and Brune and Pablo Seban talk about growing up with two mothers and one father.

Rainbow Talks – Part 2

Lena Herrmann-Green talks about being the daughter of two mothers;

Luís Amorim (NELFA Board Member) talks about the impact of gender in his life as a parent;

and Miguel Vale de Almeida talks about the connection between Anthropology and LGBT activism.

Please make sure to share this widely among your own members as they may inspire others within our community. They certainly inspired those present at the meeting in Portugal.

The national media coverage of our meeting was very positive and the meeting generated significant interest among the main Portuguese media outlets. This is also one of the reasons why annual meetings exist, to promote the visibility of LGBT parents and their children at national level. You will find more news (in Portuguese) on our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/nelfa.aisbl This is also one more opportunity to ask you to tell your own members to ‘like’ our page. We would love to get to 1500 likes by the end of 2015. It should be feasible if we all pull together.

NELFA has two new full members

We would like to inform you that NELFA has two new full members:

We are now 26 associations in 16 European countries. Join us in welcoming our two new members to the NELFA family! We look forward to working with them in the near future. To access our full list of members you can check NELFA’s leaflet on our website.

Best regards,

Luis Amorim

on behalf of NELFA’s Board
